Convince others to come and trade with you!
  • What was the daily life like for a person in your trade?
  • Who performed your trade? (men, women, farmers, educated, rich, poor…etc)

Hello my fellow colony members! Have you been in the colonies for a long time? Have you been wearing the same clothes for months? Come visit my tailor shop for a new set of shirt and britches! Women, come in and get a new Sunday dress!   New dresses are only 6 pences.  Don't have any money? What do you have to trade with me?

My life is not as hard as others. I spend my days measuring, dyeing, cutting and stitching.  I get to spend the majority of my days indoors. What is your life like?

Do you not have enough space to store your food and drinks? I can store water, milk, fruits, tobacco and corn. You can just come and ask me to put it in there and store it in a big room.

Brickmaking is an important job. It is useful for fireplaces, chimneys, etc... Unskilled poor people, like poor men, women, and children perform this trade. I will show you a step-by-step on what my trade typically involves.

1: Dig clay from the ground.

2: Mix the clay with water in what is called a "treading pit." To mix the water, stomp your feet into the clay.

3: Roll the clay in sand so it doesn't stick to the mold.

4: Put the clay into a wet mold. The mold shapes the clay into a brick.

5: Rub a flat wooden stick against the clay to remove any excess clay.

6: Remove the mold and leave the clay to dry in the sun for six days and six nights.

7: Put the clay in a shed for a month.

8: Put all of the shaped clay into a kiln. Watch carefully for six days and six nights so the clay doesn't overbake. If this does happen, the bricks will crumble apart and break.

9: You are done!!!

Good day my friends, I am a ship captain as you may know. I am now hiring crew members. Join me on adventure across the Atlantic Ocean and we will have a wonderful time.

It is a very fun and exciting life to be a ship captain. I wake up at four in the morning to take the helm until the helms men wakes up then I go to the galley. Then, I spend the rest of the day in my quarters and map the ocean. I don’t see many women in my position, also. It’s usually rich men.
