I am Andrew Snape and i am 18 years old. I am a ferrier and I have 4 brothers. I came from Europe and i used to live in a really small house. I came to the colonies because my house was too small for my family and i wanted to make money. When i arrived i learned the farrier business.

A farrier involves a lot of skills. Such as a forger, a welder, a tool maker, a shoe maker, a anatomist, a physiologist, a veterinarian. I trim horses feet and apply horseshoes. Many of us farriers are used in battles to make sure the horses are healthy. I need hook knifes, a clinch cutter, a pritchel, a hammer, alligator tongs, ripper rasps, a shoe puller, a nail clincher, a farriers pincher, ant anvil, steel and aluminum to work.

Hi, my name is Edvin Anderson and I am 18 years old. I came from Sweden with may parents, 2 sister and one brother in 1642. I am the second oldest sibling. we live in an area called New Sweden by the Delaware river. It was a hard journey to make it here but we did it to make a better life for ourselves.

My family work as candlemakers. Candles are very important because without them no one would be able to see anything after the sun goes down. the average home needs about 400 candles a year. To make candles you need a wick and fat from animals, called tallow. You could also use beeswax but that was very expensive and hard to get a hold of. You could also use the waxy coating but you would need a lot of berries to make a candle.

Hi, my name is Rufus Brown! I am 18 years old and I‘m a Blacksmith in Virginia. I live with my older brother (Paul), my twin brother (John), my younger sister (Grace), and my mom and dad. We came from Ireland because we didn’t have religious freedom, and I wanted to open my own Blacksmith shop in the New World (and my siblings also wanted to move here for their jobs) so we convinced our parents to move.

My trade isn’t usually an easy job to have. It takes a lot of practice and time to master this art. Before I could own my own shop I had to be an apprentice that worked under a master for half of a year. Then I was journeyman for two years. During that time, I went around to other villages and fixed any broken tools they had until I had enough money to open my own shop. Now I own my own blacksmith shop! My trade is important because I help people repair their broken tools and housewares and I also make new farming tools, weapons, and everyday metal items for them such cooking pots and nails. I also help the colony grown and run smoothly because the horseshoes I make help out so many of the people who live in our small town. The tools I used everyday are a bellow, forge, anvil, hammer, tongs, vice, apron, gloves and a barrel of water. I work with a lot of hot metal and these things help me do it better and keep me safe(cast iron wrought iron steel).

We could use some new cooking pots at the bakery, Rufus. We usually cook our family meals in the same oven as the bread. Also, we could use a longer pole for cleaning out the oven. Ours is short and the oven gets hot when you stand too close to it.

Hi, my name is Pearl Chapman. I am a sixteen year old baker living in Salem, Massachusetts. I came to the colonies with my two younger sisters who are twins and my mother and father. We came to the colonies from London, England to escape religious persecution, however shortly after we arrived my mother was tried as a witch and burned.

Baking is a difficult and time-consuming job. We work from sunup to sunset making the dough, heating the oven, baking the loaves and selling them in the front of the bakery to our customers. Everyone needs bread, and the community feels sorry for us because of our mom, so we have regular customers every day. The sale price of bread is strictly controlled by the Massachusetts Bay authorities, so we barely make enough to get by. Our bakery is on the waterfront, next to the grain mill and the brewery, where we have access to raw ingredients like barley and rye. The tools that we use to make bread include a brick oven, kindling to warm the oven, a metal pole with sacking to clean out the embers, and a long wooden spade known as a peel for getting the bread in and out of the oven. We also have three bins along the wall of the shop; one for storing pans, one for flour, and the other for covering the dough while it rises.

Hello my name is Caroline henwood,
I have been living on my family's farm with my my 5 other siblings, Now 4 since my younger brother died of the terrible cold. We have lived on this farm for not many years. I was new to the town. There was not much people there Not much of the generations of the henwoods have been here, we had just colonised because we seeked for the economic gain which meant more money and more rich soil. So that's how my brother died, On the long trip. We were going to a farm my grandfather had just built, My grandpa surprised us for christmas. He said this farm is a perfect way to gain money. When I heard the word farm I wanted to work. This was all form my brother who passed away, I was going to take his place in working on the farm.

I am a farmer. My brothers and sisters tell me that I should not be farmer. Instead sow clothing, clean the house, bake and do all the other things expected of a women. Me I really don't like doing expected as a women things. I much prefer cleaning out the barn hanging out with the boys thats me. A farmer. The purpose of me being a farmer is to grow food and help with the live stock. But to me being a farmer means Someone had to take my little brothers place in work. Since we moved our family's mado was new colony new job. I help out with milking cows so I can trade for some clothing of something I please. I trade the chicken eggs to a baker usually I get a big bread loaf because when I give her eggs that helps her make the bread and other pastries. To proceed my work I need a shovel and a spade, a pickaxe, a hoe and of course a bucket (the bucket is used for milking the cows). I insist with building my stand by my self. I use some old fence boards and nails to do it and no help. That's me caroline henwood.

Hi my name is Beverly Banks.
I am 25 years old.
I have 3 sisters and 1 brother.
I work with my parents at a bakery.
I live in Pennsylvania we are very known for the best bread since we grow alot of wheat.
A typical day in my shoes is waking up very very early in the morning to start the over clean heat and start the dough, check are list of special orders and do the biggest orders first. Everything is time consuming and very thankful we live at are bakery in the back. My mother and father have a very nice set up for us so it's very comfortable for my siblings and i.
I'm the oldest they are younger so I start the bakery in the morning, we are actually very popular for are breads so the morning can be overwhelming with a line of men purchasing there breakfast and lunch.
We had the best Jonnycakes and breakfast puffs around town! They also loved are hasty pudding so yes we are a very bizy bakery.
Dad was always at the farm working deals out to bring milk, fruit, veggies, wheat to eat and sell.
Pennsylvania it was a great place to live we encourage religious freedom so I do like the fact that we are not forced to live a certain way.
