One day I was making butter and I thought “What if, I had a get-together with some people from the colonies?” It sounded like a good idea. When my dad got home from work that day I said to him “Father, can we have some people over for dinner?”
He looked at me and then looked at the floor, then finally said, “Yes, but I’m not going to help you get anything, is that clear?”
I looked into his eyes and said, “Yes Father.” The next day I thought about what I would need for the get-together. We would need bread from the bakers, crops from the farmer, and, well, that is it. For the rest of the day I worked, doing all of my chores for today and tomorrow, because I plan to get everything that I need for the get-together tomorrow, and I plan to spread the news that we will have the get-together the following day.
The next day I went into town and I brought a lot of butter with me. I figured I could trade the butter for whatever I needed. First, I stopped at one of the bakeries. I thought I would get one loaf of bread from each one. I went to Susana Walls’ bakery first. When I got up to the front of the line, I said, “Can I have one loaf of what you think you best bread is, please?”
Susana looked at me and said, “Priscilla Atwood, I haven’t seen you here in awhile.”
As she gave me the bread I said, “I’m having a get-together at my house tomorrow. You are all welcome to come, and will you please tell the other people who come here?”
She looked puzzled for a second and then said, “A get-together, like a dinner?”
“Yes ma’am,” I said.
“Why, yes, I will certainly tell everybody.” After that, I went to Grace Dickson’s Bakery, and George Pearce’s farm, and I told them the same thing that I told Susana. The following night right at six, everyone came. Susana Walls, Grace Dickson, George Pearce, Jon Merin, Samuel Johnson, Taylor Jackson, John Spritz, Ann Smith, Maive Merann, Edwin Gray, and Thomas Scot. It was the best night of my life.
While we were talking Taylor asked, “Who invented the butter churn?”
Everyone looked at me for an answer, so I said, “The butter churn was invented by Alfred Clark. The first butter churn made is not the butter churn I use to make butter, it was a barrel on a rocking chair.” I’m sure I must have sounded like a talking history book, because after I finished talking, they acted like they were trying to fake that they liked it. That was probably the worst part of the night, besides that, it was for sure the best night of my life.

On my recent travels, I found myself in Virginia. Come late afternoon, I met a man of the name George Pearce. He is a farmer. A very fine man. His shoes were all muddy so I said, " If you provide me with some wheat, I will gladly make you some fine farming boots.." He replied," Yes." So I stayed at the Inn and made myself some bread out of the wheat and had a lovely dinner. I brought some of the wheat back to New York with me I made one loaf of bread and cut it in slices and left it out in my shop for those who have small repairs on their shoes and need not leave the shop while I fix it. My buyers were pleased with this offering of refreshment while they waited.

One day a man named James Anderson came into my shop and said," Hello sir, we need tinsmith at my armoury. Would you like to work for us? Don't worry You won't be making armour. You will be making things that the men at camp need." I thought for a moment. If I worked for them I would have to leave my family. I knew that I would have to make cups. They were tricky to make. I would have to use an iron soldering rod with a copper head which was placed into a charcoal brazier. Then I would have to bend a piece of metal to make a shape of a cylinder and the ends would be bent to make a water tight seam. After that I would place tin alloy on it. I would have to do these things quickly. I do not want to do this multiple times. I knew the answer to the question he asked. " No. I have good work here and I am payed well. Thanks for asking. You should ask the blacksmith next door. His name is Solomon Bell. He can make swords. I would be glad to export my goods to your camp and armoury." I said. He looked disappointed. " That is fine. We were hoping that you could work there with us." Then he left. I could hear Solomon Bell talking to James Anderson. I thought about taking the job for a few more minutes then went back to work . I had tin saws to make!

Thanks Jon, for sending James Anderson over to me. I couldn't accept
his offer because I have too much work. Also, my wife likes living here and her vegetable gardens have been growing rapidly. She and the young children are busy harvesting and preserving. We will be eating well if the garden continues bearing good crops like this every year.

A day after Priscilla Atwood's get together I decided to throw a thank you surprise party. It was a great idea in my head but it would be hard not to let Priscilla come over for tea. You see Priscilla and I have been Friends for a long time. Anyway This had to be perfect. I am going to work extra hard to get all my work done in the shop. It will not be easy. But it will be worth it. She is a great friend after all. But, how will I do it. Hmm and that is when I had a great idea.

(fact: 28000 B.C. The earliest known sewing needle was developed in Aurignacia.)

So, I finished all my orders and headed out for some food for the surprise. When I got to Susana’s bakery I asked “ Susana, can I get Priscilla Atwood’s favorite bread.” She said” sure on the house. Ut why are we whispering.” I said “ oh right I forgot to tell you I am doing a surprise get together for her and you are invited.” she said” oh how exciting but can you make me a dress?” I said” sure on the house.” and so I set off to find more stuff. Next stop the farmer.

“Hi george. How are you?” I said “ What, oh hi Taylor I am fine. Thank you.” He said.” I need some of Priscilla's Favorite crops I am having a thank you get together you are invited.” I said.” okay here you are. Her favorite crop. See you later.” he said. Is it just me or am I getting most things free today. Now off to the shoe maker.

“ Hi I …” I began to say “ you need a pair of nice shoes for a thank you surprise get together. I already made them.” My jaw was on the ground” thank you” I said in surprise. To the carpenter. When I got there I said” I need a nice table.’’ He said ‘’okay’’ so I bot a table and went home. I made a gown for Susana and went to get one finishing touch a rug.

I went to the weaver and asked for a rug I paid for it and went home again. I picked up the dress and delivered it to Susana. An hour later the guest arrived. Then I invited Priscilla over for some ‘’ tea’’. When the doorbell rang everyone was quite. I opened the door a little and hide. She pushed the door and the weaver turned on the lights. “ surprise, thank you for the get together!’’ we all yelled.

Then we all ate Susana said.’’ I love this dress. Who made the first needle?’’ All of a sudden people said ‘’ yeah ,tell us, who, what are we talking about.’’ I said ‘’ it was made by Western Europeans and Central Asians. I do not know the exact person who started it. It is unknow really but I will look into it.’’ all I could hear were crickets. Then George shouted out ‘’what every she is talking about let’s get into get together spirit.’’ Then people went back to what they were doing. Emmarising yeah worth it definitely. This was so much fun.

This was a successful get together. But there is going to be a lot of cleaning. If I ask for help every one is going to go home. Well, I am not going to worry about it because this is not over yet. And Priscilla brought some butter for the bread. She makes the best butter. Trust me. I am not just saying that because she is my friend. I say that because it is the only butter I eat. No joke. It’s that good. Well today was successful. Everyone had fun I hope. Did they? They look like they did. I think. Oh no maybe it was not successful after all. Wait what am I stressing about it was great.

She said yes my name is Susana Walls, by the way I say that's a nice name you have ther. I would like to make a trade with ya Mrs. Walls. Would you like to trade me a loaf of yer wonderful smelling bread for some paper! She said she would be glad to. So I came back the next day and we traded. I yondered home to my wife and 9 kids. I knew it was about super time because when I got close to the house I could smell the stew Ma was cooking. They were so pleasantly surprised to eat that loaf of bread with their stew.

Yesterday was a very busy day, even with my sons' help. We had been working all week to make shovel heads, hoe heads, and axe heads for some successful farmers. They had such good crops last year that they expanded their farms and hired extra hands to cut down trees and break their new lands and remove rocks. On top of this work, two horses had each lost a shoe and were brought in. We had to reshoe them urgently so they could return to plowing work. That took a lot of time. When I have time, I make the horse shoes in advance with a general shape, so we have them in store already. But then each shoe must be shaped to each horse's hoof. That takes time! The shoe is held to the horse's hoof to see what adjustment is needed to make it fit. Then it is held in the fire until it becomes red-hot and hammered on the anvil to adjust its shape. Then it is quickly held to the horse's hoof to see if it fits. If not, it is put back in the fire and the process is repeated. When the shoe finally fits the hoof, it is dunked into a pail of water to cool the iron. When the shoe is cool enough, we nail it to the horse's hoof and trim the hoof with a knife. It takes several men to do this job, as horse's head must be held steady and it's leg held securely while the shoe is hammered onto its hoof.

During all this hot work, in came James Anderson from the armoury. He said Jon Merin, the tinsmith, had suggested that I might be interested to move to the armoury and set up shop there, to make the things they need. I thanked him, but said I could not move because I had too much work already! He was a nice man and asked if I would take on some extra work for the armoury. I said I would.

Today I was working at my bakery. I was baking some bread. When I looked in the pantry there were no eggs and, no herbs so then I could not make my bread. So then I went to this farm to get what I needed. When I got to the farm there was a farmer named George Pearce. I asked him if I could trade some of my leftover loaf of bread that I had last night for some eggs and herbs. He said “ok.” Once I got the eggs and the herbs I went to the bakery to make some bread. 35 minutes later there was a line of people who wanted some of my bread. The first person in the line was the farmer, George Pearce. I asked him If he liked that loaf of bread that I gave him. He said “ Ya,I liked the loaf of bread. I liked it so much I wanted more so that's why I came here.” Then I said “ Thanks, I am glad I went to your farm because you have the best eggs.” “Thanks” he said. Once I got his loaf of bread he said “bye” then he left. So today I got some really good eggs, made a new friend and I have a lot of people in my bakery than usual. So today was a good day.

Hello Susana, I would quite enjoy a lovely piece of your bread. I can smell it from my candle shop and see that you have a lot of patrons in your bakery. So I thought "Hey there is a lot of patrons in that shop, I must try some of that bread!" If only I was able to create my candles to smell like the sweet velvet aroma of your bread!

Well I was selling my crops when a man by the name of Edwin Gray came by. He was a shoe maker in New York. I was about to offer him some wheat then he noticed that my shoes were all wrecked and muddy. He said he will provide me with a new pair boots if I give him some wheat. I did the deal. I offered him some more wheat if he could could make my kin some shoes as well. He obliged. I asked him where he was going to stay for the night. He said at the inn. I waved bye to him and he waved bye back and then the rest of the night was as usual.

It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr' Pierce. I will be bringing your shoes in about a weeks time. Thank you for the wheat, it provided me bread on my way back. The shoes were hard to make, I made them so that mud would stick less to them. I will include some leather softener, free of charge. I made your boots on my newest mold, finest of oak. I used my best hammer and awl and strongest flax thread. The boots took a little over ten hours to make, slightly longer than my usual eight. It was worth it, May you wear these boots for a long time.

Teaching school is hard. I come to school at 6:00 am and get to go at 5:00. The children come to school at 8:00 am and go at 5:00pm.If they come to school early, they have to sit down and read the bible. Most parents thought it was important to read the bible. At 8:00, we open up with a prayer. If someone comes late, he would be put in the corner of the room farthest from the fire. Then they would have to read the bible out loud and study it. Then we would do arithmatic until 11:00. We would then take a 2 hour break for and eat, until 1:00 when they would have to come back, otherwise they would get a paddle on their bottom and a red mark. After the break, they would have to wright 10 sheets of quoting the bible. We would do grammer then until was 4:50. Then we would have science class of astronomy and biology. for the older kids while the younger kids read their bible verses. When school was over, I would clean up the whole place. Then I would go home and do the regular of working in the farm. On Sunday, I have to work in the farm for two hours. Then I would get to eat breakfast, and then work for more, and only get breaks for eating and going to the bathroom. That is my break from "teaching."

One day, on Sunday, I decided I needed some acual break because all my "breaks" are always just another work day for me. I thought, "What break would be good for me to have. Could I throw a party, or could I take my time off and go shoping, or would I just get someones slave to entertain me?" While I was thinking about this, I could hear my wife talking through the window of the house. When I realized what she was doing, she said bye. I said "Wait!" and ran to the window. There, at the window, was a man. I said, "Hey, wanna go shoping with me today?" The man, totally taken back, said, "Umm, okay." That was pretty much it. We went all through the shops. Then we arrived at a tinsmith shop. There were two men talking. One, which was obviously a tinsmith, was talking to a customer. The customer was saying things like," Hello sir, we need tinsmith at my armory. Would you like to work for us? Don't worry You won't be making armor. You will be making things that the men at camp need, " and I thought, "What camp." Then I just decided to buy something so I said, "Exuse me, but I would like to have something. I don't really care what. I just want it." The tinsmith replied, "Sure, but that is the last sale i'm going to make here. I'm closing down the shop." I just said, "Sure, fine with me." and then I left. By then, it was dawn and I decided that was enough shopping for the day.

At Priscilla Atwood's get together everyone was able to meet and become friends. It is very handy because we can all trade with each other. Edwin Gray was in need of some special leather for making shoes. Edwin made George Pearce some shoes with the special leather that I gave him. I was also able to get some crops from George Pearce that my mother needed for making supper. I am making Priscilla Atwood a leather satchel for carrying her butter in to take into town. I am making it as a thank you for having us all over for the get together.

One day I smelled the wonderful scent of bread coming into my shop from Susana Walls bakery in the town. I wanted to ask her if I could have some bread because I had the idea to make a sweet aroma for my candle wax. Usually I make my candles from tallow which is animal fat, and they turn out nice but the smell is not really pleasant. I also use beeswax and they smell better. But a new scent would be much better for my shop patrons. So I went to Susana's shop and asked "May I please Susana have a loaf of your delicious bread? Or would you please tell me what herbs are in your bread that make that wonderful aroma?" She replied "Yes I can make you a loaf of bread, but how will you make it into a candle? You better do some research first." So then I went to Thomas Scot the school teacher and asked him "I have an idea but I need to do some research to see if I am correct. Would have books on science of candles?" He replied "Why, yes certainly. I can show you where the books are." So I took the book home and read it. Then I went back to the bakery. I asked again if I can have a loaf of bread. She said sure. After buying the bread, I went back to my candle shop. I made many experiments, but it didn't turn out well. The bread candle was soggy. I decided instead to visit George Pearce the farmer to see if he had any berries I could use in my wax instead. He replied "Sure I can give you some berries, I have bayberry bushes on my farm." I said I would love to have some bayberries. So I bought them from the kind farmer. This time I crushed the berries with my bread and mixed it into the tallow. The wax turned purple and smelled sweet. "Eureka!" I shouted, success at last. I took my new wonderful smelling candles to Pricilla Atwood's party where everyone enjoyed them.

A tool called a Harrow was made completely out of wood. The harrow was usually a square or a half circle grid like pattern with pegs going into the earth, it was used to break up and smooth over the dirt the plow had just dug up.
