Hi Kinder Parents!

Found this super fun sight word activity with arts and whole body integration.

Would be a fantastic addition to your homestudy day!

Today Olivia started her day with approx 20 mins of ST Math followed by 25 mins of reading her new Peppa Pig treasury book she picked out at Costco this week. For math she practiced her 9 number bonds and also used little blocks to tell math stories for addition and subtraction practice. After lunch we worked on word families and made lists of word ending in: -in, -ag, -an and -at. For break times, Olivia had fun making movie scenes with her brother using sound effects on a karaoke machine and then finished the fun making a pin hole camera with a pringles can. Off to Gymnastics class soon for her P.E.

We have been really trying to focus on learning to recognize all the alphabet letters and their sounds. We have been using flash cards to quiz and also watched the letters and their sounds video recommended by you. We of course finished off the day with some reading. We check out new books from the library every week and we read those each night. As well as the "just right" books we borrowed.

If any of you have fun games for recognizing letters will you please share them! I would love to incorporate some fun activities other than just flash cards and worksheets.

Today, Caleb and Noelle studied owls. We began the lesson with reading a passage about owls from an animal encyclopedia. Using what they read as well as an owl vocabulary page, Caleb and Noelle were asked to write a words using 2 new owl voc. words. Next, I created an OWL number bond page focusing on both adding and subtracting. Together, we read Owls Live in Trees... learning all the different places owls live and fing their nests [owls use old, abandoned nests- so cool]. Caleb and Noelle then chose which nest they wanted to recreate and used items from our yard to make a model. After snack, I read Owl' s Day, a fiction story aloud. As a team, we filled in a story map which focused on story elements such as characters, setting and order of events. To wrap up the day, I created worksheets with my cell phone number to practice saying it, writing, and dialing it. They also completed a 911 page, which provided an opportunity to discuss emergency and what to say. :)

After lunch we practiced his sight words. He got a sight word book for Christmas and has been working on a few words a week. Parker also did a free write by drawing a picture and writing about it. We then practiced the number bond by using different action figures. We finished the day by reading 2 of his just right books and reading Go Dog Go.

We spent the early morning reflecting on project week and I asked Ollie what projects he had seen and enjoyed and why.
Later in the morning, Ollie read through a half dozen of his short books and spent extra time on words that were more difficult for him.
After lunch, he did ST math and then participated with his sister as she did her Spelling City.
Later in the day, we worked on counting as we did the laundry:)

We started off our morning with some reading leveled books, followed by the kids creating their own pop up card for an Aunt who is sick. Isabel wrote a letter to her Aunt and also her great Grandma for writing. She remembered to capitalize at the beginning of a sentence and for names! Yay! Then she played some ST math. We learned what a spine is and how it works while we were at the chiropractor, since she and I had our first visits.

So for us we started the day with discussing project week and how Zoey felt she did. Then played a couple sight word games with the supplies from you, Trish. After did some work with number bonds which Melody stepped in to help her sister (which was very sweet). And as we do before bed each night read a couple stories and had Zoey say the words she recognized.

Zoe started and I started the morning out by writing a Bio Poem all about her. She wrote out 10 sentences all starting with a different prompt: I am, I want, I feel, I love, I need, I fear, etc. She loved this and it included so many sight words and opportunities to try and spell new words. She wrote 10 sentences in a snap and then read them to me!

Next we read some Shell Silverstein Poems and talked about some other types of poetry that she might want to try over the next few weeks.

She also read me some of her BOB sight word books and read a few level D books from her brother's Raz Kids Account

Next she did ST Math for 25 minutes and spent some time counting from 1-100 on another app we have on our ipad

After that we sorted our laundry by color and type and made choooclate chip cookies. We read the recipe together and I left her do all the measuring and mixing. She also made a card for her friend's birthday party she was going to on Saturday. It was a fun and busy day :)

Cameron did 10 minutes st math, he also practiced tracing numbers and we practiced identifying numbers out of order.

We started a composition book for project week that has sentences made up of his sight words; he reads one and then writes it out. Together we read a book called Pat the Cat to support the "at" they learned this week.

And we did a magnet project with his brother. He learned about the north and south poles on a magnet and we made a cardboard track with magnetic paper cars that are moved with another magnet.

Since talking with you about Sadie being on the verge of moving up in grade levels we have decided to get back to our reading studies. She has done 3 sections and is doing really well. We also decided to jump into the sciences and make some rock candy. Science and sugar... win win!

We studied the country of Russia using some learning tools sent to us from expats in Moscow. Talked about the different architecture and weather using photos. We tasted a Russian snack and then Caleb drew a picture and wrote about Russia.

We read a letter from a 1st grader in Moscow and Caleb also did some self reading from books.

We watched a video on planets and talked about how the earth revolves around the sun.

For math Caleb helped me cook and practiced measurements.

Gage spent the morning at the library, picking out books, having story time and playing games on hebcomputer. He has been super excited to learn how to read so we spent extra time with sight words and reading. He was able to read me two books we picked out from the library. We also did some math, subtraction and addition, using linking cubes. We then finished with a math board game his sister created for project week in kindergarten.

Cash worked on math worksheets printed from the Eureka website, he read to me and I read from a chapter book to the boys. We had a ton of outside PE time. His father found a birds nest and we spent some time trying to determine which bird had lived in the nest.

Hudson has been working really hard on his site words this whole weekend. We made magnets for the fridge earlier in the week, so he is able to see them and practice them throughout the day. We also made sentences out of them and he was very proud to come up with some himself. We watched the letter factory and he did about 35 min of ST math. Then he had lots of outdoor play time that afternoon.
